Our top Isle of Palms vacation rental home tips:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking your Charleston area rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Wonderful New Construction Home w\/ Private Pool! 6 Bedrooms and 6 Full Baths! has 6 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. text the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
