Our top Charleston area vacation rental home tips:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Great for Groups! Parking + Outdoor Space! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
