Our top Charleston rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Sleeps 11 has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
