Vacation rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Center of Charleston\/Two Homes\/6BR\/6BA\/Sleeps 16 has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
