Finding the best rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Sleeps 8
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
