Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Downtown Charleston has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
