How to find the best Charleston area rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. ‘Sand Swept’ - Downtown Private Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
