Strategies for getting the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book your prefectrental:
- First, have your family choose trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘The Bermuda’ has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
