Booking the best rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Walk Everywhere - Newly Renovated - 5BR\/5BA! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
