Getting the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your group select a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Chapel - Downtown Charleston - 5BR\/4BA has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is right for your family.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
