Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- To get the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 2022 Renovation! Spacious Beach Home w\/Private Pool, Elevator, & Prime Location! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
