Tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Sleeps 12 has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
