Finding the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Luxury Beach Living, Pool, Walk to Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
