Our top Charleston area vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Modern Amenities in Historic Charleston's Harleston Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
