Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Modern Amenities in Historic Charleston's Harleston Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
