Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose and book your prefectrental home:
- To start, have your group select the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Daniel Island Getaway has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
