Our top Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental value:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio (2F) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
