The space
Live oaks provide a canopy over the bungalow and many windows make for a elegantly, well lit spot with tons of natural light. Open floor plan offers a big bay window with bistro seating, a kitchen with pantry, coffee pot, toaster oven, and wall oven, and the living room is roomy with a couch, bookshelf, coffee table, and huge TV. The bedroom is just off the living room where you'll find a the separate laundry room, queen bed with two nightstands, dresser, closet and a bathroom that features an alcove.
Guest access
Coastal Cottage is located in the back of the half acre lot. In the front of our property is our sister Airbnb: Live Oak Retreat. It features a 3/2.5 one story home. Guests of Coastal Cottage park directly in front of their home. Guests at Live Oak Retreat park on the left side of the driveaway and along the side of the deck and carport. The right side of the driveway needs to remain open so Coastal Cottage guests can access their home. We have never had any issues with parking but want to make sure all guests are aware of how to share the parking space.

Charleston rental property booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To get the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose and book yourrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Private Coastal Cottage on James Island has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
