Recently remodeled, well-designed bungalow located on charming James Island.

It's calming and peaceful and provides the ideal location for walking to tons of eateries, movie theatre, public golf course, music venue, boat landings and one mile from the county park that offers walking/cycling trails, playgrounds, splash pads, climbing and the only dog park on the island.

Just mins. to downtown Charleston & Folly Beach!
The space
Live oaks provide a canopy over the bungalow and many windows make for a delightfully, well lit spot with tons of natural light. Open floor plan offers a big bay window with bistro seating, a kitchen with pantry, coffee pot, toaster oven, and wall oven, and the living room is roomy with a couch, bookshelf, coffee table, and sizable TV. The bedroom is just off the living room where you'll find a the separate laundry room, queen bed with two nightstands, dresser, closet and a bathroom that features an alcove.
Guest access
Coastal Cottage is located in the back of the half acre lot. In the front of our property is our sister Airbnb: Live Oak Retreat. It features a 3/2.5 one story home. Guests of Coastal Cottage park directly in front of their home. Guests at Live Oak Retreat park on the left side of the driveaway and along the side of the deck and carport. The right side of the driveway needs to remain open so Coastal Cottage guests can access their home. We have never had any issues with parking but want to make sure all guests are aware of how to share the parking space.

Strategies for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking your Charleston area rental:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Private Coastal Cottage on James Island has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
