Strategies for getting the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick your Charleston area rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxurious Waterfront Getaway, minutes from Folly Beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
