Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting and booking your Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Historic Downtown Family Friendly Spacious Home has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.

- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.

- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words.
