Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best rental in the Charleston area area:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Historic Downtown Family Friendly Spacious Home has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
