Our top Charleston vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. East Bay Home *Historic District* Walk Everywhere! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
