Our top Charleston rental home tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Downtown Oasis: Entire Home + Carriage House! has 8 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
