Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Patio, Porches and Parking - 2 Blocks to King! has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
