Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation home:
- Start by having your group select vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Patio, Porches and Parking - 2 Blocks to King! has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
