Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and picking the right Charleston area rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 8 bedroom LUXURY IOP Home with Private POOL & Ocean VIEWS!! Steps from beach! has 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
