How to find the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Selecting and booking your prefect Charleston area rental home:
- First, have your group commit to dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Ashley Speakeasy King Suite includes breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
