Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Courtyard Suite with Tranquil Garden & Heated Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
