Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your family select trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Courtyard Suite with Tranquil Garden & Heated Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
