Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • To start, have your family commit to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. AWESOME PROPERTY, GREAT DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON LOCATION! Sleeps 10 has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
