Tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Great Charleston SC location in West Ashley has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
