Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best rental in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Stunning 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
