Tips for getting the perfect Charleston rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Booking in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Historic District 6 Blocks to Market Street has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
