How to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the bestvacation home:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Historic District 6 Blocks to Market Street has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
