Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Book your Charleston area rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
