Tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. The Bogard Duo 6 Bed 6 Bath has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
