Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Bogard Duo 6 Bed 6 Bath has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
