Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick yourvacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. IOP 6BD Only 3 Min Walk to Beach w\/ Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
