Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. ????3 53rd Ave~ Stunning Ocean Views, Pool, Hot Tub, Elevator, Mother-in-law Suite???? has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
