Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Historic Charleston Charm has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
