Getting the best vacation rental experience:
Get the best value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Serene Escape Over Heated Pool, 1 Block to King St has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
During your stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
