Tips to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Private Detached Guest House Close to Historic Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
