Strategies to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Private Detached Guest House Close to Historic Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
