Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Private Detached Guest House Close to Historic Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
