Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. To get the best rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Modern Villa in Wild Dunes! OCEAN VIEW! Great Central Location! Walk to Amenities! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
