Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Renovated two-story home in Charleston with private yard - 30-day rental has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
