Charleston area rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 4 Bedroom - 4 Blocks to King St. with Parking has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
