Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your Charleston area rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Villa in Wild Dunes w\/2 Master Suites & Community Pool! Great Views! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
