Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking the rightrental home:
- First, have your family decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Villa in Wild Dunes w\/2 Master Suites & Community Pool! Great Views! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is right for your trip.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
