Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston area rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and pick a perfect Charleston area rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Perfect for Groups, Directly off King Street! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
