Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Our condominium is located in the heart of the medical district has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
