Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the perfect rental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Magnolia Suite at 265 Rutledge has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
