How to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. The Carolina Suite at 265 Rutledge has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
