Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your family agree to date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Central & Cozy Downtown Apartment has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
