Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. OCEANFRONT Wild Dunes- Perfect for Relaxing w\/ the Ocean Breeze has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
