Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking yourrental:
- First and foremost, have your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Great Stay in Charleston, SC. Easy walk to cafes, restaurants, bars, & parks has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
