Finding the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- 30+ Day Stays has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
