Finding the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Folly Beach Oasis + Amazing Water Views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
