Charleston area vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. New pool & spa, updated interiors, steps to beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your group.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
