Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- To start, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Close to King Street 4 Bedroom - Charleston Charm! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
